Video & photography

Find the right video and photography team.

Good video and photography make everything else in your marketing work harder. The right production partner will plan the shoot around how the content will be used — not just how it will look.

What a video and photography agency does

Production agencies and studios create brand films, advertisements, social video, product photography, team portraits, event coverage and case-study content. Work usually runs through pre-production (concept, script, shot list, locations, talent), the shoot itself, and post-production (editing, colour, sound, motion graphics and versions for each platform).

Common ways to work together

  • Single production. One shoot with a defined set of deliverables.
  • Content days. A day or half-day capturing a library of content for later use.
  • Ongoing content. A regular schedule of shoots for social and campaigns.

Budget considerations

The main cost drivers are crew size, shoot length, locations, talent, equipment and how much editing and how many versions you need. Usage rights for talent and music can also affect cost. Planning several pieces of content in one shoot is usually more efficient than many small shoots.

Questions to ask

  • How do you plan a shoot before the day?
  • How many versions and formats will we receive?
  • How many rounds of edits are included?
  • Who holds the rights to the footage, music and talent?
  • Can we see recent work in a similar style?

Red flags

Watch for quotes with no pre-production, unclear usage rights, a showreel with nothing recent, and no plan for how the content will be used across your channels.

Common questions.

How far ahead should I book a shoot?

It depends on the scale. A simple photo session can come together quickly; a brand film with talent and locations needs more planning time.

Do I own the footage?

Ask before you start. Raw footage, music licences and talent usage are often handled differently from the final edits.

Can one shoot cover social and website content?

Yes, and it is often the most efficient approach. Share where the content will be used so it can be planned for each format.
