Branding & creative

Find the right branding agency.

A branding agency shapes how your business looks, sounds and feels. Whether you need a new identity, a refresh or a campaign, the right fit depends on your stage, your audience and how involved you want to be.

What a branding agency does

Branding covers the decisions that make your business recognisable: your name, logo, colours, typography, tone of voice and the way you describe what you do. Many branding agencies also produce campaigns, packaging, signage and the design system that keeps everything consistent.

Common ways to work together

  • Brand identity project. Research, strategy, concepts, refinement and a set of final assets and guidelines.
  • Brand refresh. Updating an existing identity without starting from scratch.
  • Ongoing creative. A retainer or block of hours for campaigns, social assets and marketing materials.

Budget considerations

The cost of branding depends on how much research and strategy is involved, how many concepts you see, how many rounds of changes are included and what you receive at the end. A logo on its own is a very different job from a full identity with guidelines and templates. Ask for a clear list of deliverables before you compare quotes.

Questions to ask

  • What research do you do before designing anything?
  • How many concepts will we see, and how many rounds of changes are included?
  • Who owns the final files and the rights to use them?
  • Can you show identities you've created for businesses like ours?

Red flags

Watch out for agencies that jump straight to design without understanding your business, that can't explain the reasoning behind their work, or that are vague about ownership of the final files.

Common questions.

What should I receive at the end of a branding project?

Usually a logo in several formats, a colour palette, typography, and guidelines explaining how to use them. Larger projects may include templates, tone of voice and messaging. Confirm the list before you start.

Should I refresh or rebrand?

If people already recognise your brand and it mostly works, a refresh is often enough. If your business has changed significantly, a rebrand may be worth it. A good agency will tell you honestly which you need.

Do branding agencies also build websites?

Some do, some partner with developers. Tell us if you need both and we will look for agencies that can cover the full scope.

Not sure which branding agency is right?

Tell unpitch about your goals, budget and preferences. We'll research suitable options and help arrange introductions.
