Both freelancers and agencies do excellent work. The right choice depends on what you need, how much of it, and how much you want to manage.
When a freelancer makes sense
- You need one skill done well, such as copywriting, design or Google Ads.
- The workload is predictable and fits one person's capacity.
- You want direct contact with the person doing the work.
- You're comfortable coordinating several specialists yourself.
When an agency makes sense
- You need several skills working together, such as strategy, creative and media.
- You want someone else to coordinate the work.
- You need cover for holidays, illness and busy periods.
- The work is larger or more complex than one person can carry.
The middle ground
Boutique agencies and independent specialists who work with trusted collaborators sit between the two. They often combine senior attention with access to more skills.
Questions to help you decide
- How many different skills does this work need?
- How much time can you spend managing suppliers?
- What happens if your main contact is unavailable for a month?
- Is this a one-off project or an ongoing relationship?
